There is nothing more horrible than the feeling of tension in your body. The muscle aches, the sore chest, the clenched teeth – it all amounts to pain, and pain is not ideal! You could be juggling any number of things; there is no such thing as there not being “enough stress” in life and no matter what it is that is making you tense, you need help.
Unclenching your jaw and letting your muscles feel relaxed is tough and trying to relax and relieve stress is even tougher right now. Lockdowns and home education around working from home? That’s all incredibly hard! Stress can lead to heartburn, worn teeth, heart issues, insomnia, and a rubbish sex drive.
It takes pieces of your life and mashes them up – it’s not nice, and it doesn’t have to be that way. You need to be able to find your Zen, to tune out of all the difficulties that life wants to throw at you. It’s not always easy and we won’t pretend that it will be, but you can still work to feel good about yourself. Below, we’ve put together four great ways that you can take a moment and Ohm your way out of this stress you’re handling!
- Magnesium Boosting. Your body can achieve that more relaxed state with a magnesium boost; all you need is supplements to get you going. Improving your sleep quality needs to be a priority for you and you deserve to sleep properly every night. With a magnesium supplement, you can better encourage those moments of calm that you so desperately need.
- Better Scents. Sometimes, a candle burning can pull your focus from your stress and into relaxation. The best thing to do is to find a scented candle option that will make your space more inviting and improve your mood. Try out lavender, bergamot, and jasmine, but not all together. Lavender will help you to feel calm and relaxed but bergamot will alleviate the feelings of anxiety. Jasmine just smells beautiful! You can make any day a spa day with the right essential oils or bath salts, too!
- Belly Breathing. Holding your breath right now, aren’t you? Most of us dealing with stress do it and we don’t know we are doing it until we gasp. Stress makes us hold those breaths but you can let it go with belly breathing. Breathe deeply into your diaphragm and make your belly push out but not your chest. Then breathe out through your mouth slowly so that you can blow out the air – and the stress along with it! Deep breathing and connecting to your breath will make you feel relaxed and happier as a result.
- Muscle Relaxation. Get comfortable and take a moment to really tune into your body. Go from top to bottom and unclench every muscle. Lower your shoulders and relax your jaw, rotate your feet and stretch gently. You need to do this a few times to get the hang of it but muscle relaxation is going to be life-changing for your tension!
