4 Ways to Decorate Your Kitchen for the Holidays

By Upliftingfam @upliftingfam

The holidays offer a unique opportunity to completely change your kitchen's decor. Whether you prefer rustic decorations or more classic touches, you can create a winter wonderland that welcomes friends and family members and inspires you to make holiday treats.

Bring in More Light

A light-filled kitchen can make this space a prime gathering spot for loved ones during your holiday celebrations. It can also make cooking and baking more enjoyable, especially if you dread the extensive preparations of holiday meals. To bring more cheer into your kitchen, string twinkle lights from Christmas Lights Etc around your kitchen window or across the tops of your cabinets for a burst of color and light.

You could also fill mason jars with Christmas lights to create one-of-a-kind light decorations. Hang them from the ceiling, set them on the kitchen counter, or put them on wall sconces. Mason jar lights also make great night lights when you sneak into the kitchen for a midnight holiday snack.

Create Small (or Large) Collections

Your favorite Christmas decor can become a focal point in your kitchen. Arrange small collections of tiny snowmen, Santas, and other holiday icons on your counters or on a window sill. If you make small groupings, each collection can become part of a much larger decorating theme.

Alternatively, use one large element as a focal point. A small Christmas tree can add more light and give you a place to hang your extra ornaments. You might fill a large apothecary jar with antique ornaments or string a garland around your cabinets to add texture and color.

Replace Chair and Table Decor

Holiday-themed chair cushions will welcome loved ones to the table and bring holiday cheer to your kitchen. Choose something simple, such as solid red or green, or go with bold patterns if you prefer more excitement in your decor. You can also attach ribbons and bows to the backs of your chairs or make personalized name cards for each seat at the dinner table.

Consider removing your normal centerpieces and adding a bowl full of glittery pinecones or a large Christmas platter filled with ornaments. Let your imagination run wild - custom centerpieces are more impactful and personal.

Collect Holiday Tableware

You might start with a collection of snowman-themed mugs or a set of plates decorated with hand-drawn holly. You don't have to collect a full tableware collection with a holiday theme all at once, but adding to the collection over the years can make your kitchen more festive and give you a reason to hit the stores during the holiday season for your Christmas shopping.

Table cloths, servers, bowls, platters, salt and pepper shakers, tea towels, and napkin rings are all examples of kitchen items that can have a holiday theme to add to your decor. Instead of hiding them in cabinets over the holidays, display them on a sideboard or countertop to make the room more festive.

The holidays are the perfect time to make your kitchen the most inviting room in the home. When people come to spend time with you and your family, they'll feel drawn to this space thanks to your hard work and creative sense of style.
