Family gatherings in Portugal are always accompanied by copious amounts of food, and birthdays are no exception. Regular Sunday gatherings go on for hours, with leftovers plus a random assortment of food gifts. But birthdays — for other family members — supply us with entire home cooked meals. It’s like birthday-lite.
I learned long ago that there’s no sense in trying to curb the volume of food. The main difference at Mother-in-Law Restaurante for birthdays is the extra cake. There’s also the tendency to extend lunch through to the afternoon meal, which is called lanche and colloquially referred to as “snack” but for some it resembles an actual meal.
Previous birthdays that I’ve posted: 30, 29, 28
Last but not least, a brief clip of Parabéns a Você.
