30 Days Recap : March 2013

Posted on the 31 March 2013 by Ikzidna @InspiredGround

Time to recap films I saw first time in March 2013. Not exactly a lot, but most of them are new releases. I try to catch up with 2012 films to perfect my top 2012 movies (I still owe you that). But this March was quite special as LAMMY Awards 2013 has started and Inspired Ground join the celebration. I also joined Fashion in Film Blogathon held by Hollywood Revenue film blog. And, I started new featured Inspired By & Links.Okay, here’s the movies I haven’t reviewed for some reasons. I think the biggest surprise was Warm Bodies (2013) turned out to be one of my favorite this month. Here’s the mini reviews :

Warm Bodies (2013)
Though a little out of logic (zombies have feelings? What the??), it has a big morale message. I wasn’t aware that zombies miss to ‘feel’ and ‘dream’ and ‘express’, but apparently they do. At least with R, the lead character. It kind of reminded me that somehow humans are like zombie at some point, when they ignore using their hearts. Warm bodies have some terrific soundtrack as well. Pretty entertaining and has some profound points. But there were many silly and funny moments combined with thrilling and scary image. I haven’t seen anything like this. This movie introduced me to the band M83, still listen to it until now.

Celeste & Jesse Forever (2012)

Relationships are hard to let go when we used to cling to one person, especially when started at a young age. This movie successfully stated how some people have troubles to move on from a broken relationship. And some moments like isn’t easy to face, neither when you watch them. I love the two lead’s chemistry as best friends, so comfortable at each other, and also quite casual at one another. It could be better at some elements, could be a tad more dramatic but instead the plot wants to be more comedic. I’m not sure I like it, but it surely good at showing the troubles of moving on from a comfortable relationship.

Movie Score : 3,5 Stars

Chasing Mavericks (2012)
Hoping to get an inspiring story from this one. It was inspiring true story, but unfortunately quite average transformed on screen. What’s average was the performances, except for Gerard Butler’s role as a great surfer. The big waves on the climax part were magnificent plus terrifying. It’s a good choice for a Sunday rental pick.

Movie Score : 3 Stars

Parental Guidance (2012)
Very entertaining and hilarious. Billy Christal is a true comedian, supported by Bette Midler’s humorous performance. It looks natural for both of them. Their chemistry with Marisa Tomei perfected the comedy. I have low expectations on this one, but it’s successfully gave me chuckles.

Movie Score : 3 Stars

This is 40 (2012)
Not sure if I like this one, but there were some moments of truth about dealing with family member and raising family. Funny and painfully real sometimes. Not the best of Judd Apatow’s films.

Movie Score : 3 Stars

The Host (2013)
You cannot not compare it to Twilight. Except when it comes to the lead, I love Saoirse Ronan more than K-Stew. And the actors weren’t acting cold and empty. It felt like a love story wrapped in an alien-takes-over-the-world story. So if you love romance, you may like this one. It had a potential to be more thrilling and action packed, but it didn’t use it so much. Which is a shame, because Ronan was great in Hanna (2011). But overall, it had a nice message about friendship and humanity. I also loved Diane Kruger’s performance as the Seeker.
