It’s the end of July? Really? I swear time surely passes too quickly, or is it just me? Well like usual it’s time for me to recap the movies I watched monthly. July’s a regular month but I did watched several new releases and some ended up in the best movies in 2013. Doing an interview for The Five Obstruction blogathon is interesting, though I wish I can interview in person not by e-mail (oh my schedules!). And receiving Sunshine Award from Ruth, answering the questions was fun. My post about memorable movie scenes involving bench got great response, that’s a nice surprise Also always nice to reply sincere comments from the visitors.
Anyways here’s my top 3 movies this month :
Spring Breakers is controversial, and The Aviator sure does excellent, but Mud really moved me. The top two is documentary Side by Side and Saturday Night Fever. I love knowing more about things behind the scene and dance movies seem easy to won me over. I’ll review Mud fully soon. You can read my mini-reviews below :
The Aviator (2004)
One great biopic movie, one that give big message to not compromising our dreams and our wishes, through the life of Howard Hughes. But also tells how obsession can really kill us. I loved, loved Cate Blanchett’s performance. Other supporting actors were great; John C. Reilly, Alec Baldwin, Alan Alda, Adam Scott, etc. Possibly one of the best performance by Leo DiCaprio I’ve ever seen. But somehow his acting and stubbornness irritated me in the end. Loved the wardrobe also.
Movie Score : 4 Stars
Spring Breakers (2013)
If Spring Breakers were described to one word, to me, it would be controversial, or outrageous. I won’t show this movie to my younger sister or to my future daughter, but it described one (kind of sad) truth about how teenage would just do anything for what they call ‘break’. And I thought my teenage were stressful (homework and stuffs), but these kids apparently are stressed enough that they need a break so much they rob a diner. And this movie aren’t censoring anything, but maybe that’s just what the best (and the worst) from it. It showed by these 4 best friends who know each other from kids, but they have different personalities and life purposes. Wildest I ever seen Vanessa Hudgens performed and probably best performance every by James Franco. Spring Breakers is interesting, fresh and frightening at the same time. It’s one movie we constantly talk about this year. And, who would’ve thought they’d sang Britney Spears’ Every time so moving?
Movie Score : 3,5 Stars
Side by Side (2011)
It’s for you who love movies and wants to be in the industry, definitely great knowledge and documentary to watch. Inspiring and filled with many testimonials by the filmmakers, editors, DOPs and crews in the industry. Great job, Keanu Reeves. Hearing testimonials by the best directors (Nolan, Fincher, etc) was a nice surprise.
Movie Score : 4,5 Stars
Pacific Rim (2013)
Some people say that this movie is too much in love with Japan’s anime. But combined that with incredible CGI and visual effects, it’s one excellent movie. I usually can’t get through too much of action movie, but I stayed focus watching this (it might be because it’s been too long for me to actually go to the cinema). What’s interesting is they included one woman protagonist, makes me included as a girl (not so much of a boy movie). The lead reminded me of Channing Tatum. I think this movie is a strong candidate to win Oscar’s best visual effect.
Movie Score : 3,5 Stars
