30 Days of Blogging (D.I.Y. and Paper Tips) Day Eighteen: Making Envelopes

By Christyo8 @CTDESIGNSINC

Day 18! Custom envelopes... Seriously, I should send out stationery to my loved ones more often. I have so many tools! When doing the Days 16 and 17 I dug out my envelope liner templates and also stumbled on, you guessed it, envelope templates.

I got this great Envelope Template Kit from Paper Source.

The trick to creating envelopes is to take the time to find some great, unique patterns and then make up a few so that you've got some ready when its time to send a card out. I looked all over for some patterned paper and found that while I didn't have a ton of cool paper stocked, I DID find something interesting.
Remember when I stated that I used to buy anything and everything that I thought was cute? Well, I found one of those items when I was cleaning up the studio (we are having a Black Friday sale, check it out).

Pictured above is a calendar from 2009! Yes. Still inside the packaging. Great Japanese prints. I decided to use them as my pattern for a 4 bar envelope...

The templates are cool because they have seams where you can use your bone folder in order to score and fold these properly!

Other tips:
  1. Make sure if you are using a busy pattern like I did that you have a way to address the envelope properly. Wrap around labels are perfect for this dilemma.
  2. If using a heavier card stock, make sure you slide the bone folder over the paper a few times to ensure easy folding.
  3. Paper Source's envelope liner templates correspond to these envelope templates if you'd like to use them in conjunction.

That's it for Day 18... We'll be back tomorrow. Hope you are enjoying the holiday!
