You may sometimes need to call carpet cleaning companies such as Sunrise Chem-Dry to help you to remove urine odor from your carpets. Now, other than calling a cleaning company for this task, what else can one do at home to remove urine smell from their carpets? Here are 3 tips to help you.

1. Use Citrus-enzyme cleaner

One of the easiest ways to remove stains and odors left on the carpet by dog urine is by the use of an enzyme cleaner. It is actually better if you can make this enzyme cleaner at home and save money in the process.

To make the citrus enzyme cleaner at home, you will need three months to have it set and therefore, you need to have done this well in advance so that you can use it when the need arises. You require brown sugar, water, orange peels and lemon. 7 tablespoons brown sugar should be funneled into a clear container. You then add 1 and a half cups of orange and lemon peels and another 1 liter of water and shake it vigorously after capping it. You then loosen the cap halfway so some gases can be released.

You can then use this mixture to clean the urine from the carpet. This is a good way to keep your carpet clean and smelling good. The secret to the removal of the stains and odor is to always clean them off when you spot them. This becomes easier and is better than waiting for it to stick.

2. Use Vinegar cleaning solution to neutralize urine odor

This is another great way to neutralize pet smell from your carpet. You will have to create the cleaning solution from vinegar. Use one part water and one part white vinegar.  With the vinegar solution, you can be sure that the ammonia smell of urine from the pets will be neutralized by the vinegar solution.

The first step is to pour the solution slowly in the area of the carpet that is stained. This solution should reach all the areas of the fiber so that the smell can be completely neutralized. Allow the carpet 10 minutes for it to absorb the solution and then use paper towel layers for the absorption of the liquid. The carpet will be dry after a few hours. You can then sprinkle baking soda on the area to neutralize the odor. Allow the baking powder 15 minutes on the carpet and then you can vacuum the area for the best cleaning results.

3. Using a Mixture of Vinegar and Baking soda

A mixture of Baking soda and vinegar can be a good solution to remove pet urine smell from carpet. You can do this by mixing the two ingredients together in a spray bottle. You need to mix 1 cup white vinegar and 2 tablespoons of baking soda and 1 cup of water. Shake this mixture well until it is well mixed together. After some time, spray the mixture on the carpet where the stain is and let it stay for five minutes. When it bubbles up, it’s a clear indication that it is working. After the fifteen minutes, blot it up with a fresh cloth. This ensures the pet urine smell goes away. The mixture will stay strong and effective for several months. Therefore, it can be a good idea if you can keep the mixture in your house if you have a cat or dog in the house.
