3 Goal Setting Must Do’s

By Sowanddipity @Sowanddipity

Here’s my confession…

My name is Shelley and it’s been 11 days since my last post.

….and here’s why. I have what I’m calling ‘To-Do Soup Brain’. There are SO many things I want/need to accomplish this year that I don’t even know where to start. My immediate to-do list has 100′s of items on it and every time I try to focus on one goal, 5 more pop up…..like dipping into a big bowl of goal soup.

Join yoga, take a photography coarse, meditate, drink more water, organize that closet….where do I start? I’m not talking resolutions here, I’m not trying to resolve anything. I’m trying to create a bigger & better life.

#1 Get Clear

Here’s what I did to sort out all those to-dos and get really clear on what mattered most to me. I went looking for some help and I found Scott Dinsmore’s Live your Legend website.

This helped me immensely. Using the workbook he provides ( for free!! ) I was able to compartmentalize all the area’s of my life I was looking to change, improve or enhance. He really helps you break it down to the very first steps you need to take towards even the most biggest goals. Want to lose 10lbs?  Start with a glass of water….right now.

In addition, if you sign up for his mailing list ( which means you’ll get ton’s of inspiring tidbits delivered directly to you! ) you’ll have access to some other great free tools as well. I drank the Kool Aid….I signed up, followed, ‘liked’ etc. I don’t want to miss out any of his stuff.

For the record: I don’t know Scott, this is really just my own personal endorsement. I figure if he’s going to offer me free tools that will help me improve every area of my life, he at least deserves a positive review.

#2 Get Organized

The greatest thing about all of our electronic devices is their ability to sync with each other and keep you organized. There are a ton of app’s out there, Scott recommends several on his site that have helped him.

For me, I found using my Google Calendars has worked great when syncing with my iPhone. The app I’m currently using to organize my to-dos, idea’s, shopping lists etc is called Awesome Note.

Each folder can sync with a different calendar, be used in journal form, as checklists etc. I use this on both my Ipad and Iphone. Syncing between the two is as easy as using my Bluetooth or backing up and syncing through my Mac laptop.

I have shopped many many app’s, this is my favorite for versatility, layout and even for it’s appearance.  ( I’m a color girl! ) Here’s the link to it in the Itunes Store:

In addition to creating calendars and mapping out monthly check points, I went even one step further and used the double sliding mirrored closet doors in my Creation Station ( craft room sounds too soft for a firecracker like me ) and dry erase pens to write out in BIG letters, my goals for the week/month/year. This way I see these every time I walk in that room for re-enforcement. Consider getting a giant white board for your ‘war room’.

#3 Get Real

That is a picture of my Dashboard Buddha. Yes….for real. This happy little fella bounces and sways along with me on all my commutes. As ridiculous as this may sound, he helps me check in with myself, stay grounded and reminds me to smile.

Goals can be big or small, but achieving them isn’t always easy. Be real, set easily obtainable goals, but set others high so you stretch yourself. Scott recommends a weekly review of your achievements, what you learned, what fell off the list and what you could do to improve the next time.

I’ve got some SERIOUS big goals this year!

Sow and Dipity is growing and expanding into new territory. I plan to introduce down-loadable garden designs, a gardenista clothing line, and even a few other goodies in my on-line shop. I want to write an eBook, join classes and improve my income.

And most importantly, find a way to be like my smiling Dashboard Buddha, who is always happy to go along with the ride.
