24 Hours at The Sanderson, London

When it came to celebrating a year together last week, my boyfriend and I were at a little of a loss of what to do. Whilst I’m a fan of marking milestones, it felt a little jarring to go for a meal or forcibly make time for a weekend away as we’re saving to move abroad. We’ve also already been away for a month together and we’d also done extravagant meals for our birthdays and so I decided to simply book us an overnight staycation in London, the city that brought us together and where we so fondly spent all of our summer last year. My only requisite for the evening was a Franco Manca and his was a bubble bath (living that millennial dream) and so we settled upon finding a hotel.
The Sanderson London turned out to be our idyllic getaway. Contemporary, quirky decor coupled with a secret escape feel in the heart of London. An amalgamation of perfectly thought-out rooms to complement the maze of dreamy suites upstairs, connected by a lift that was decked out in galaxy wares. We were welcomed to a Deluxe room, a striking blend between Baroque and modern interior styles, blindingly simple yet extravagant at the same time.
Of course, my first thought was to dive into the 300-thread count cotton linen and Harvey’s was to check out the bathroom situation!
After unpacking our things all across the suite and realising the room somehow still looked immaculate, we headed out into Soho for my requested Franco Manca (always #3 with wild garlic pesto and fresh cherry tomatoes on top!) before venturing to a local bar to toast our first year together with some Velvet Devil red wine.
We returned to evening turn-down service, some anniversary macarons (thank you Katy!) and mood lighting with blackout blinds. And those blackout blinds!! SO great that we very almost missed breakfast service the next day.
And breakfast was another story altogether. We ventured out to the restaurant terrace and were seated beside the beautiful water feature. Water running, birds chirping and an immense feeling of stillness despite being in the heart of London, it was the perfect setting for an anniversary breakfast. We feasted on cappuccinos and iced lattes and avocado on toast (mine) and steak and eggs (his). We mused about upcoming trips and plans for the future and plans for the day and laughed candidly. We snapped away at cheesy selcas, all bar one of which were shareable. We had the best start to our week.
And that, was our early celebration of a year.
