Former Minister and United National Party (UNP) Chairman Vajira Abeywardena said yesterday that the 21st Amendment to the Constitution should include a strong and irreversible National Policy Framework covering all major areas of concern which should be endorsed by all political parties in Parliament.

“If we can present this Amendment with the consent of all 225 Members of Parliament it would be a victory for the country and the people,” he said.

Abeywardena said that Parliament should meet day and night and all political parties should unite and present the document to rebuild the country.

He also said that Ranil Wickremesinghe had indicated the path that the country should have taken over the past two years, but this advice had not been taken seriously.

“The document to rebuild the country should be submitted by all political parties together. Ranil Wickremesinghe said what should be done for two years. He did not hide the programme. What is more important to the country at the moment?” Abeywardene questioned.
