The 2022 Honda Civic breaks cover as the automaker revealed the prototype of its best-selling sedan in the U.S. It is the 11th generation Honda Civic and will hit the road in late spring 2021.
Honda usually releases prototypes instead of concept cars, as prototypes look more like production-ready models. However, the automaker still says the production model may differ from the pictures.
Yesterday, the automaker shared the first glimpse of the 11th generation Honda Civic via its Twitter handle. While this is the first event for the upcoming Honda Civic and the images shown are prototypes, that's enough to spot some of the major design changes.
Similar to the 2021 model, the new Honda Civic lineup will include the Civic, Hatchback, Si and Type R sedans.
However, it is quite different in terms of the look of the 2021 Honda Civic. Let's explore a bit and see what's new in the new Honda Civic.

Honda Civic Prototype 2022 vs. Honda Civic 2021
Exterior changes
Unlike the previous generation, the Honda Civic 2022 has a slightly less aggressive and more mature design. However, he still looks sporty and muscular.
The automaker says the 2022 Honda Civic is getting a sophisticated new styling, improved bodywork and chassis.
If we get a bit more precise, the hood of the new Honda Civic looks lower and longer than the 2021 model. The pillars and windshield are also pushed back a bit, contributing to a longer hood. Also, the C-pillar seems slightly lower, which makes it look more like a luxury sedan.
If we talk about the front, the new Civic now displays a hexagonal grille on the lower bumper, which is missing from the current model. The headlights are sleeker and cleaner than the current generation.
Moving towards the rear profile, the taillights are inspired by the C-shaped lights. However, it looks a bit softer and blunt compared to the 2021 Honda Civic.
Interior changes
According to the prototype images, we can say that the position of the infotainment screen and the AC vents is now different. The automaker has introduced a floating screen, and just below it appear the AC vents stretched across the entire dashboard.
In the existing 2021 model, the air conditioning vents are located above the dashboard and the HD display is placed below in the center console.
In addition, the cup holder is now adjacent to the gear lever, whereas in the current generation it is located before the transmission stick. However, the interior door handles and power window buttons look roughly the same.
Additionally, the new interior appears to have a completely black theme instead of the two-tone interior of the previous model.
Powertrain
So far, the automaker has only revealed the appearance of the 11th generation Civic. It remains for him to announce what will be new under the hood.
Although it is too early, we are also expecting the same engine lineup. However, the automaker may make few changes or tune the engines in a different way to make them more efficient and powerful.
Honda Civic 2022 price
Likewise, Honda has also kept a low profile on pricing. However, the price of the current model starts at $ 21,050. We're hoping the 2022 Honda Civic will have a starting price of between $ 22,000 and $ 23,000.
Since the automaker has only revealed a prototype image, some of the 2022 Honda Civic's specifications may change at launch.
Apart from that, Honda stated in a Press release that the new Civic also receives for the first time a digital instrument panel as well as an active and passive safety system.
