2013 San Antonio Book Festival - My Family Picks

By Michelle Hernandez @Familylovesa
Sure I love to read books, but I am more interested in nurturing a love of books and desire for learning in my kids, so events like the San Antonio Book Festival are just what I am looking for! Who doesn't LOVE the combination of books, culture, food, music and downtown San Antonio!

The Texas Book Festival - San Antonio Edition is happening this Saturday at the Central Library, crossing the street over to the Southwest School of Art on April 13, 2013 from 10-5pm. It is a free event that celebrates the written word with book signings, readings, panel discussions, cooking demonstrations, music entertainment and more!
You can get the entire schedule here, but these are the family events that I am looking for: At the SA Reads Children's Tent on the 3rd Floor, West Terrace of Central Library 10:00-10:30: Carmen Tafolla (Fiesta Babies) 10:45-11:15: Elaine Scott (Buried Alive!: How 33 Miners Survived 69 Days Deep Under the Chilean Desert)

11:30-Noon: Don Tate (It Jes' Happened: When Bill Traylor Started to Draw)
12:15-12:45: Jennifer Gaines Drez (Goodnight San Antonio)
1:00-1:30:     Diane Gonzales Bertrand (Sofía and the Purple Dress/Sofía y el vestido morado)
1:45-2:15:    Cynthia Levinson (We've Got a Job: The 1963 Birmingham Children's March)
2:30-3:00:     Lupe Ruiz Flores (Alicia's Fruity Drinks/Las aquas frescas de Alicia)
3:15-3:45:     Xavier Garza (Maximilian and the Mystery of the Guardian Angel)
4:00-4:30:     Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni (Grandma and the Great Gourd: A Bengali Folktale)

Children's Book Sales and Signings will be from 10am - 5:30pm at the Story Room on the 3rd Floor. Authors will sign books immediately following their session. Books must be purchased from the B&N area in order to be signed. A receipt must be presented in the Book Signing area.

The San Antonio Story - En Nuestras Palabras - Presented by the Library Foundation's Latino Leadership for the Library Committee - will be at the Central Library Plaza Walk. All day: My Story Van; Stories on the Porch; Create A Story; Meet the Story Tellers; Book Sales; Stories Are Milagros For the Future.
