On last week’s Wedding Wednesday, we talked about some of the trends we saw on the runways during this year’s bridal fashion week – brightly hued bridesmaids dresses were a big hit.
This week, we’re focusing on the bride’s attire, and the newest trends that 2012 will bring to wedding gowns. The Knot has a great roundup of the top 10 biggest trends spotted for next year, and we can’t help noticing that some of bridal’s biggest trends are shared with fashion at large.
1. The Cape: The cape is making a comeback in a big way, wearable in both street style and editorials. In ready-to-wear, the cape is dramatic and a unique, yet classic way to stay warm. For bridal, it turns sheer for elegance, and adds lace for a feminine touch.

2. The Sexy Slit: Starlets have been working the slit on the red carpet for years, and 2011 brought extra leg into the limelight for mainstream fashion. In bridal, the slits make sexy dresses even sexier – a great option for modern brides with progressive grandmothers.

3. Hi-Low Hemlines (AKA the Mullet Dress): The asymmetrical hemline took the summer by storm, and the trend is continuing into the cooler months. With bridal, the hi-low hemline gets added volume and the added benefit of both a train, and the chance to show off wedding footwear.

4. Cap Sleeves: The return of the mod craze to the fashion world meant a resurgence of cap sleeved dresses. And while shifts are Quant-cool on the runways, for bridal they turn delicate and regal.
