2009 WineHaven La Crescent

Today, for Day 2 of Regional Wine Week, I have a white wine from WineHaven. The La Crescent grape is another grape developed by the University of Minnesota. This grape was released in 2002. This grape has survived temperatures as cold as -34°F.

WineHaven produces a variety of wines from different grapes as well as other fruits. They have also recently been awarded a patent on a new grape variety, Chisago. I reviewed their Marquette Reserve yesterday.

I’m picking up pears, honey, and floral on the nose.

Ripe, juicy pear on the palate along with some honey. There’s some acidity towards the finish that balances out the sweetness well. There’s some sugar, but it’s not too sweet. The sweetness is about what you might expect from a German Kabinett Riesling or Gewürztraminer.

This gets my “Very Good” rating.
