This wine comes from Spain. More specifically, it is from the Rioja region of Spain, which is a D.O.Ca. (Denominación de Origen Calificada) region. Red wines (Tinto) from Rioja typically use Tempranillo as the main grape, and this wine from Campo Viejo is no exception.
This is a Crianza wine, which means that the wine has been aged for a minimum of two years, and it has spent at least six months in oak.
I’m getting vanilla and cherries on the nose, with strawberries, cherries, and vanilla on the palate. There’s also a bit of light spice. I’m having a bit of difficulty identifying it, but I’m going to call it white pepper. It’s fairly smooth and balanced.
This is one of the lighter reds. In that way, it is similar to a Chianti. (There’s also some similar flavors, with lighter fruits, vanilla, and some light spice.)
I’ll give this a “Very Good” rating. This wine normally sells for $10 here, although i did get it for less than $8 on sale. It’s definitely worth buying at that price.
