A grave incident has unfolded in Bukedea District, eastern Uganda, where the police are on the lookout for two brothers implicated in a violent attack against their mother. The suspects, Andrew and Ivan, residents of Akaramai Village, are accused of attempted murder following a confrontation on the night of March 20.
The altercation erupted when the brothers arrived home to find their mother, Melidah, with a man named Joseph, in what they perceived as a betrayal of their father, Isaac, who was absent due to his teaching job.
In a fit of rage, the brothers allegedly assaulted their mother and her companion with machetes, causing severe injuries. The victims were promptly rushed to Bukedea Health Centre IV for urgent medical care.
Fred Enanga, the spokesperson for Uganda Police, has strongly condemned the attack, stressing the sanctity of maternal respect. He advised that such family disputes should be addressed through dialog with family members, community elders, or the police, rather than resorting to violence.
The community is in shock, and there is a call for the brothers to face justice. The case highlights the need for better mechanisms to resolve domestic conflicts and prevent such tragedies.
