1920′s Glam Ghd Curls Like Taylor Swift (Hair Tutorial)

By Juliet Siu @Lacenruffles

I found myself to be in the hair wonderland this week.

Nothing else beats the joy of having a glam hair day every day since I got my hands on my shiny new toy, the ghd Wonderland Styler. I was fairly intrigued by the name as it’s called a ‘styler’ rather than a straightener, so I decided to give myself a challenge of creating the curliest curls with it.

Here’s the mood board I put together, trying to create the opulent 1920′s glamour with ghd curls, inspired by the movie Great Gatsby and Taylor Swift.

I’m so blessed as I work with a bunch of multi-talented people in my day job, and I managed to get this fun-loving girl Tara to be my hair stylist. Check out my hair tutorial and you’ll be amazed by how fun and easy it is playing with ghd curls. I guarantee you’ll have red carpet ready hair in 20 minutes and  still have time to enjoy a glass of wine before you slip on your favourite pair of Manolo!

Your 4 Step Guide To Creating 1920′s Glam ghd Curls:

1. Prep & Brush

Spray your hair with shine and heat protection mist.  Divide your hair into small sections and brush it through using a large paddle brush.

2. GHD it!

Start from the bottom section of your hair and from the root, mist with hair spray to help the style hold. Now curl by wrapping your hair away from your face around your ghd styler. Make sure you wrap all the way towards the tip of your hair. Hold the styler for around 3 seconds and then slowly slide it down while holding the curl in place with your fingers. Curl the tip of your hair again if needed. Pin and mist with hair spray. Repeat this step until all sections are curled and pinned. Tips: Curl your hair towards the same direction all the way for the elegant 1920′s vibe as most of the hair styles in this era are side-swept.

3. Pin & Set

Now sit back and enjoy a glass of wine, or work on your makeup and smokey eyes while you wait for the curls to cool down! It should take around five minutes. I took the time to take some selfies in my 40′s housewives’s pinup hair.

4. Tease & Style

Remove the pins and again mist with hair spray. You might want to add some volume to the front by teasing your hair using the tail of a backcombing comb. Part your hair to the side and clip on some sparkly hair accessories behind your ear on the side with less volume of hair. Also try pinning your hair up in a messy side bun for the glam red-carpet look.

I hope I’ve inspired you to have fun with your hair and create your most glamorous ghd style! Check out some more inspirations here and show me your most brag-worthy curls by tagging #Lacenruffles on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, I’ll shout out to you in my upcoming post.

Wishing you a good hair day everyday, my fellow lovelies!
