Almost 25 years ago !! – this film was about unscrupulous fly-by-night operators who cheat the credulous public asking them to pay Rs. 1 lakh (huge amount those days!) promising visa and job in Dubai !!
Vetri Kodi Kattu written and directed by Cheran, starring Murali, Parthiban, Meena, Malavika, Vadivelu, Manorama, released in 2000 ran well, won the National Film Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues, in addition to three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards.The interactions between Vadivelu and Parthiban were great hits and this particular scene became a ‘celebrated meme’.

வடிவேலுவின் மிகவும் பிரபலமான நகைச்சுவைக் காட்சி "வெற்றிக் கொடி கட்டு" (Vetri Kodi Kattu) படத்தில் இடம் பெற்றுள்ளது. வடிவேலு தான் துபாயில் இருந்து வந்ததாக அலம்பல் பண்ணும் வடிவேலு ஜிகினா நீல கலர் துணி அணிந்து - பார்த்திபனை பார்த்து துபாயில் நீ எங்கு இருந்தாய் என பலர் முன்னிலையில் கேட்பார்.வெளிநாடு (துபாய்) செல்வதற்காக பணம் குடுத்து ஏமாந்து கஷ்டப்படும் பார்த்திபன் சொல்லும் முகவரி :
"நம்பர் 6, விவேகானந்தர் தெரு, துபாய் குறுக்கு சந்து, துபாய் மெயின் ரோடு, துபாய்!"
என்னது ! திரும்பி சொல்லு (repeattu) என வடிவேலு கேட்க - உடனடியாக பார்த்திபன் துபாயில் இருந்து நம்பர் 6 வரை பின்னாடி (reverse order)ல் சொல்லுவார்.

Back to Triplicane – Big Street, that has the famous TUCS, Hindu High School, Pillaiyar kovil, many banks .. .. is officially ‘Veeraraghava Mudali Street’.The Street is neither long nor wide – and now a days driving a vehicle is challenging.From nearer Gangaikondan Market [Jain temple], it traverses, cutting across Bharathiyar Salai [Pycrofts Road] till Wallajah road [near erstwhile Childrens’ theater – now Kalaivanar Arangam] – not sure whether any other famous personality by name Veeraraghava Mudaliyar lived in Triplicane or it refers to that poet of 17th century, known as Andhahakkavi Veeraraghavar, famous for Tamil literary contributions despite being blind from birth.
