We will seek the mercy of God
“…if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” –2 Chronicles 7:14
On this day, when the airwaves and the internet are filled with memories of the horror that struck America 12 years ago, many will turn off their tv or computer, and seek the face of God.
The promise we read in 2nd Chronicles speaks exactly to our needs. We have a culture that has gone off the rails, a nation that may not last another year, a world full of enemies, and a level of corruption that cannot be sustained. Abortions have reached a genocidal number, our books and entertainment are increasingly driven by organizations bent on perverting our children, and the government has now become a ruling aristocracy reminiscent of pre-revolution France.
Our only hope is the promises of God we read here. These promises are conditional. They speak to the people of God, not to those outside the faith, and they require we humble ourselves and pray, and turn from our sinful ways. If we meet these conditions, we have assurance of God’s intervention for us and our land. It’s a moment to ask if we’ve slipped in our walk, and make corrections.
I’m not a prophet, but I do believe we need to follow this scripture if we want to be spared a national catastrophe.
