10 Wild Predictions for M Night Shyamalan’s Trap

M Night Shyamalan’s Trap is fast approaching, and the trailer got people talking. It presents a fascinating concept of a police event to capture a serial killer at a pop concert. This got my mind running about what could be the twists and turns we see along the way.

I tried this with Scream 6 and got a couple of wild predictions correct. I wanted to try this again, just for fun and never to be taken more seriously. Any information I am using is from the trailers and the director’s reputation.

This might end up containing SPOILERS and is pure theory, this is the warning before reading.

10 Wild Predictions for M Night Shyamalan’s Trap

1 – There is No Twist

I want to start with one of the more basic ideas and keep it simple. Cooper (Josh Hartnett) is a serial killer and has kept it from his family. It is simply a thriller of him trying to elude capture and remain with his family. This would follow him trying to frame someone else to get his freedom. It might well be one of the more boring predictions, but the twist would be on the audience expecting more.

2 – Riley isn’t Cooper’s Daughter

Riley is a victim of Cooper’s rampage but has been raised to believe he is her father. She is treated like a daughter and committed to good behavior gets her a pass to the concert. However, it was her plan to escape by reporting him and going along with his capture. It is a bold twist and one we saw a controlling killer in ‘No One Lives’ who turned his victim into a family.

We have previous in his movies to pull this off, with Split showing Casey trying to get close to the Beast to escape. This could build on that to another level, but it would take away from the real-time feeling the movie looks to desire.

3 – Riley is the Killer

Riley being the real killer is the most widely reported guess by people, it might not be a wild prediction. Cooper is simply helping his daughter get away with murders not wanting to let her get caught. However, that makes him the visible person behind the murders. With this being the most widely predicted twist, it wouldn’t come as big of a surprise as the others on this list.

4 – It takes place in the Unbreakable World

Nobody predicted ‘Split’ would be in the same universe as Unbreakable and the shocking reveal of David Dunn shocked everyone. We have seen Shyamalan’s ability to bring this twist to life before, and I would expect a much earlier reveal too. The next couple of predictions dive deeper into the theories behind that.

5 – Cooper hunts people with abilities

The first of two is that Cooper is hunting down people who have abilities, like we saw with David Dunn, Kevin and Elijah Price. He works for Clover and kills anyone who could pose a threat to society. This would give him the potential to return and unlock other mysterious powers people might have. It would explain why the police have arrived and Cooper is trying to tie up loose ends in case he is captured. As the victim we see on the phone has a gift they want to be hidden from the world.

6 – Cooper Hunts Clover Members

On the flip side, the ending of Glass revealed the organisation known as Clover who have been hunting and killing people with powers. However, they have been publicly exposed. Cooper could either be hunting them down to protect his daughter or revenge for his wife’s murder (We don’t know the wife’s status at this point). Now the group is known, he could be working to get rid of them stopping people from helping others in the world.

7 – Cooper is Hunting the Real Killer Himself

Cooper has been running an operation to capture the real serial killer. The person in the video clip is a victim of the real killer and/or a friend of Cooper’s. It would mean the killer has control over Cooper and he must do something to save his friend/victim. All while using this as a chance to capture the killer himself. When the police arrive, his reaction is fear, knowing the killer is facing a difficult situation and could escape his well-planned event.

8 – Lady Raven is the Target

We don’t know much about what the killer wants or who they target. It seems risky for Cooper to pick a concert being such a public place. What if he was planning his next victim to be the singing Lady Raven? He already is a well-known threat in the media, but it would become a statement killing for him. This might not be as interesting as others, but it focuses more on the concept of him wanting to take bigger risks in the world.

9 – Cooper is a Cop

This one jumps between a few different ideas. Cooper is still the killer but in everyday life, he is a cop. He sees people he knows waiting to make the arrest and wonders why he never got invited, knowing they have tracked him down. I know this sounds a lot like Dexter, but it could still be a twist in the story and one that adds another level to everything unfolding.

10 – Cooper has a Plan B

If Cooper is a calculated killer, he would have a backup plan if he ever got caught in a difficult position. This could bring a much more chilling side to the concert, with him holding the audience more to ransom as he demands to be released. It could be anything that puts everyone else in danger giving him the major leverage during the situation.

That is 10 Wild Prediction for M Night Shyamalan’s Trap. What ones do you think could be true?
