In the women's U23 competition at the UCI Mountainbike World Cup presented by Shimano in Albstadt, Rebecca Henderson celebrated her first World Cup victory. The Australian began the race at a measured pace. "On this course you have to use your brains. Therefore, I took it a little bit slow at first. And I was never beyond my limit, "she explained her strategy.
On the second lap she took the lead from Swiss biker Linda Indergand and rode away from her. Henderson won the race after four rounds (16.8 kilometers). She was and 48 seconds ahead of Jenny Rissveds. The young Swede suffered a heavy crash on the first lap and had to catch up again. "I am very happy that I was able to conquer second place, "said Rissveds.
Third place went to Yana Belomoyna from Ukraine, 1:02 minutes back.
Best German U23 woman was Helen Grobert (Remetschwiel) in fourth place, 1:58 minutes back . "I am well accustomed to this position on the podium, "said Grobert who was not really happy about it. "I have ridden a steady race. Too bad it was not good enough for the podium, "she said.
