More popularly known as the venue for “The Rush” Zipline – Tierra Alta is our highly recommended getaway place when you find yourself in Dumaguete city. You will get instant gratification should you choose this path; more like a stairway to heaven.
A residential lot that caters to wealthy house hunters. It is composed of lower and higher housing levels, the latter being the most idyllic for luxurious living up in the mountains and above everyone else. Tierra Alta is built on top of an 800 feet high platform / viewing deck overlooking the entire Dumaguete. The nearby islands of Cebu and Siquijor are visible in the distance, separated only by the blue sea It is also a place where you can find anything to your liking be it peace, relaxation or even adventure. They have it all.
We’ve been to Tierra Alta numerous times like for example when we showed up at the Rotary Club of Dumaguete Fellowship Party back in 2011, also, one of Cebu’s finest painters – Celso Duazo Pepito paid us a visit and so we brought him and his family there for a tour and as a source of inspiration for his upcoming works of art, then there was the time when my brother and sister in-law came home from Dubai and the like; too many great memories made in Tierra Alta.
Aside from “The Rush” Zipline, another popular spot within the compound is the Tierra Alta Lighthouse which provides a breathtaking 360 degree panoramic view of the Tierra Alta Clubhouse, the newly added Aquatica pool, Phil South mansions still under construction and beyond. The backdrop of mountain ranges, cottony clouds against blue skies, the nearby islands and the sea makes for a divine feeling which is like being a God or Goddess of Olympus just keeping watch and at the same time enjoying the sceneries below.

Tierra Cafe is a cozy restaurant where you can order delicious foods and drinks on your day tour visit. Since we were there to swim in their Aquatica pool, we weren’t permitted to bring main courses like steaks and seafoods that we love, instead we were allowed only to be served snacks, pizzas and desserts. Since we had a big breakfast anyway in Dumaguete city, we didn’t care that much about where to eat. There’s a lot of food variants to choose from their menu, which is truly amazing since this restaurant is nestled right on top of a mountain.

Lunch by the Aquatica Pool at Tierra Alta
Our orders came – a big hamburger, pizza and some canned juice drinks. The entrance fee is only P50, but if wish to swim in their pool it would cost you P500 per person, the P200 there is consumable and the pool fee is P300. Not bad, really. So, since there were two of us, our consumable amount rose up to P400. We only added a couple hundred bucks plus tips so a total spending of P1,250.
Swimming in Aquatica at Tierra Alta
Here’s a breakdown of our time spent in the Aquatica pool of Tierra Alta: swimming in the pool – 2 hours, jacuzzi – 2 hours – eating every now and then, sightseeing and picture taking – 1 hour. That’s worth half a day if you sum it all up. By the way, they only allow swimming in the pool from 2 PM onwards, but we insisted we go earlier, luckily they gave us the go signal at 1:30 PM. We had a blast, and yes we felt so high and mighty literally.
Aquatica Jacuzzi Pool at Tierra Alta
They have two jacuzzi pools located on both ends of the pool. We loved the massaging effect of the bubbles – very relaxing! We spent a couple of hours there, alternated it with swimming and munching on food. One can just sit in the jacuzzi while enjoying the magnificent view – the mountains, the lighthouse, the sea and neighboring islands – there’s a lot to see up there. There were birds regularly flying by. The sky is usually painted with amazing colors like reds and oranges as the sun sets.
Nicco’s Bonfire at Tierra Alta
The lamp posts will light up when its dark and they complement the beauty of Tierra Alta even It’s very unfortunate that our point and shoot camera ran out of battery charge.more. We did stumble upon a bonfire area earlier and we made a request to light it up, since it was already night time, but we were told that it only gets lit when there are functions like weddings, birthdays and seminars. We realized that we got a bit too demanding while in Tierra Alta, must be that “high and mighty” feeling again. Before we get so carried away, we vacated the pool area and hit the shower rooms.

How to Get to Tierra Alta from Dumaguete
From Dumaguete, ride a tricycle going to Tierra Alta in Valencia. Look for motorcycles for rent in the area. Just ask around. NOTE: We haven’t tried this mode of transportation yet since we have our own vehicles. We will do a dry run in the near future and update this post.
