My very first fondant cake I made was this blue Zebra Cake. You can click HERE to see more of this cake and party decorations. Zebra Cake Stripes & Zebra Figure Tutorial
I then had someone want one just like it but in hot pink. This cake is bigger than my first one.

Before I started the cake I made the zebra. Here is what you need. On the left, the body and below is the head. On the right side from top to bottom. Tail, front legs, ears and back legs. All made with gumpaste. Zebra Cake Stripes & Zebra Figure Tutorial
I made this on top of a six inch pan. The size of the top layer. First I added the head with a little water.  Zebra Cake Stripes & Zebra Figure Tutorial  Then the front legs. Same way, with a little water. Zebra Cake Stripes & Zebra Figure Tutorial  Back legs. Zebra Cake Stripes & Zebra Figure Tutorial  Ears and tail. Zebra Cake Stripes & Zebra Figure Tutorial  I rolled out a little black gumpaste and cut a small section for the nose. Zebra Cake Stripes & Zebra Figure Tutorial  Again with a little water I added a thin layer across his nose. I then took and made two little holes for the nose. I then took black gumpaste and cut a rectangel out. I then cut all the way down to make a mane. Zebra Cake Stripes & Zebra Figure Tutorial
I attached it with water. Sorry about the next two blurry pictures. Zebra Cake Stripes & Zebra Figure Tutorial
Next I cut out some half circles and wrapped them around the end of each leg for the holves. Zebra Cake Stripes & Zebra Figure Tutorial
I added a little hair to the front and two eyes. Zebra Cake Stripes & Zebra Figure Tutorial
Add some gumpaste stripes and there you have a cute little zebra. Zebra Cake Stripes & Zebra Figure Tutorial

Now on to the cake. The night before I do the cake I make my fondant so it can sit over night. I made an 8 inch and 6 inch French Vanilla cake. I crumb coated them both. (see the crumbs ha ha)

This is the 6 in covered with fondant and the other one is a 10 in board that I decided to cover to put the cake on. Zebra Cake Stripes & Zebra Figure Tutorial
For the larger cake I rolled out white fondant. I then cut out black fondant for the stripes and layed it on the fondant. This is how I make my zebra stripes lay flush with the white. I cover it with plastic wrap and then roll the black stripes into the white. Awesome trick right!  Next put this on the cake. Zebra Cake Stripes & Zebra Figure Tutorial
Put it all together and add some ribbon around the bottom if you like. Zebra Cake Stripes & Zebra Figure Tutorial
