Free Things to Do in Paris

By Monkeys And Mountains Adventure @Laurel_Robbins

This is a guest post by Maike Mocikat from Only-apartments.com

The greedy city-traveler in every one of us wants to experience all aspects of the city and that at the lowest price possible. This seems to be very difficult in a city like Paris at first, but I have sought out some free things to do trying to cover a broad array of city activities for a weekend trip staying in  Paris apartments.

Culture

For some culture at no cost visit the Père-Lachaise Cemetery. The fact that a cemetery is a touristic hotspot may seem odd at first, but this cemetery has reached cult-status thanks to the famous people who are buried here, among them Édith Piaf, Jim Morrison, Molière, Marcel Proust etc. Arguably the most visited tomb is the one of Oscar Wilde. Many people leave messages, kisses and flowers on his tomb.

Fashion & Window-Shopping

Paris is one of the world’s fashion capitals and you will find that many of the designer power houses are their seat here. But you are mistaken if you think that this world is only reserved for the rich and the famous.  The department store Galleries Lafayette host a weekly fashion show every Friday afternoon. Because the show is free the demand is high, so it is very important that you make a reservation.

Food

Le Grenier is a bar that you can go to for a relaxed night listening to Jazz and Manouche music. On Saturdays you get a complimentary dish of couscous if you order a drink. In fact, there are several other bars that have the same offer on different nights of the week. So be on the lookout.

Nightlife

The nights can get pretty long at La Flèche d’Or. What used to be a train station is now restaurant, bar and club. This place presents great rock and electro concerts, but also has some great parties where the entrance is free from 8pm until 2am.

The many parks and gardens offer other free activities for when you are spending a couple of days in apartments in Paris. Depending on the season the parks offer different performances and of course you will always find some interesting street performers.
