Happy Thanksgiving!

By Curlygeek04 @curlygeek04

thanksgivingOn this Thanksgiving day, I want to say thank you to my readers for five years of The Book Stop.  This blog means a lot to me: it’s my creative outlet, my source of reading recommendations, my sense of community.

Today, I’m thankful for all the good people I have in my life, especially for my family.  I’m thankful for my sisters who are also my friends, and most of all my husband who is my best friend and my constant support.  He’s the one person in this world I am absolutely myself with — and that means a lot.  He’s the person I want to travel around the world with, and the person I always want to come home to.

I’m also thankful for our two furry “little ones” who let us live with them, pet them, and feed them (though not nearly as often as they would like).

I’m also thankful I have the freedom, and the resources, to live life the way I want to.  What does that mean?  For me it’s the freedom to express myself, to go to a job that’s not perfect but is meaningful and challenging, to go back to school because I wanted to.  The freedom to read what I want and talk about what I read.  The freedom to see the world (when I can).  And the freedom to not have children when I didn’t think parenting was the right path for me.  It’s an odd thing to be thankful for, but so many women haven’t had that choice, so I never take it for granted.

My life isn’t perfect, but it’s awfully good.  I’m always thinking about how I can do more, be a better person.  I know I don’t help others as much as I should, and I’m not always as good a friend as I could be.  This is a day not just for thinking about what I have, but what others need.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who is celebrating today.
