Bulletproof Coffee

Bulletproof Coffee
I LOVE coffee! I have to have it every day or I go through withdrawals. I love the smell, the taste and the way it makes me feel. I started drinking coffee with my mom when I was probably 4 or 5. I used to take sips out of her cup and eventually she let me have my own. Since then I have been on the hunt for the perfect cup of coffee and I have finally found it. The best part is I made it myself!
I used to think those Coffee-Mate and International Delight flavor filled creamers made the perfect cup of coffee (especially the ones that only come out during the holidays). Until one day I realized flavor wasn’t the only thing in there. Have you ever looked at all the ingredients? Half of them I can’t even pronounce. When I started noticing an after taste I stopped consuming them.
For the last six months or so I’ve been drinking my coffee with unsweetened almond milk and Sweet Leaf Sweet Drops. I was quite content. I wasn’t searching for anything more. I just happened to come across bulletproof coffee one day while scrolling through Instagram. The first time I tried it, I used only coconut oil. It was pretty good but I wasn’t convinced it was better than my almond milk.
I did a little more research and I found a couple recipes that used coconut oil and ghee. I know what you’re thinking. Fat in my coffee? It sounds strange but it’s so good and good for you! I can honestly say that I am less hungry throughout the day when I start my morning with this bulletproof coffee. Fat keeps you satisfied longer. Just make sure you’re consuming real fat from real foods.
Like I said before, I’ve found a lot of recipes for bulletproof coffee while searching the internet. I took what I read and made a couple tweaks and created my perfect cup. Feel free to make your own tweaks.

I start by turning on my Keuring and letting it warm up. Right now I have Kahlua flavored K-cups and they are delicious! I’m pretty frugal and I hate buying K-cups. I usually wait for them to go on clearance. I found these at TJ Maxx for a steal! I’m going to shop there for K-cups from now on.

While my Keurig is warming up, I add a spoon full of coconut oil and a spoon full of ghee to a coffee mug and I warm it up in the microwave. 30 seconds is usually perfect. My favorite coconut oil is Nutiva. Make sure you get organic and cold pressed. I’ve only tried one brand of ghee and it’s from Trader Joe’s. I’m pretty happy with it.

Time to brew the coffee! The smell is amazing! By the way, you can use whatever coffee you’d like. From a pot, from a french press, instant, etc. It’s your bulletproof, make it however you’d like.

Here are the four ingredients I will add to the blender. My fiancé found me this cashew milk last night and I was so excited to try it! I love all the milk alternatives that are out there nowadays. I highly recommend Sweet Leaf Sweet Drops. I use vanilla crème for this particular recipe.

I add my hot coffee to the blender and I turn it on grate. I slowly add the melted coconut oil and ghee. It should start to froth at the top. That’s the good stuff.

Then I add the cashew milk. Pardon my mess. Pouring milk and taking photos at the same time is a lot harder than it seems.

Lastly, I add the sweetener. A little goes a long way.

That’s it. Enjoy perfection in a mug.
