Kevin Costner got just the response that he was expecting at the Cannes Film Festival. It was his first directorial in more than a decade. The film, titled “Horizon: An American Saga,” premiered at the event, and Costner has decided to turn it into a four-part series.

The 69-year-old was left in tears after the film received an almost ten-minute standing ovation on Sunday night. After receiving such a marvelous response, he said he would never forget this experience. It was the first public screening of ‘Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1,’ whose budget is over 90 million dollars.

As soon as the film ended, teary-eyed Costner went to give a moving speech. From the viral clips online, he seemed quite moved by the audience’s response. People were heard chanting his name.

Kevin Costner said,

I’m sorry you had to clap that long for me to understand that I should speak,

Such good people. Such a good moment, not just for me, but for the actors that came with me, for people who believed in me, who continued to work. It’s a funny business, and I’m so glad I found it. There’s no place like here. I’ll never forget this — either will my children.

There was no reason that this was gonna happen, and it’s just another miracle in my life,

Thank you so much for giving me your precious time. I hope that this time was worth it for you. Thank you.

Notably, the actor has repeatedly revealed that he found it difficult to find finances for the movie. In order to fund the project, the actor has taken a mortgage on his own California property. He directed, produced, co-wrote, and acted in the movie.

The project focuses on the difficulties that people went through in the late 1800s. The synopsis of the film states: Families, friends and foes discover the lure of the Old West as the Civil War divides the country.

The first part of the movie will be dropped on June 28, 2024, while its second installment will be released on August 16, 2024.
