Wreath Laying Ceremonies Held to Mark Anniversary of Kim Jong Suk’s Demise

Floral wreath-laying ceremonies were held on September 22 (Thursday) to mark the 67th anniversary of the death of Kim Jong Suk (Kim Cho’ng-suk), wife of late DPRK President and founder Kim Il Sung (Kim Il-so’ng) and mother of late DPRK leader Kim Jong Il (Kim Cho’ng-il) and his younger sister, former Workers’ Party of Korea [WPK] Political Bureau Member and Secretary Kim Kyong Hui (Kim Kyo’ng-hu’i).  Kim Jong Suk passed away from an extrauterine pregnancy in Pyongyang on September 22, 1949.

A floral wreath laying ceremony was held at the Revolutionary Martyrs’ Cemetery on Mt. Taesong.  Among those attending the ceremony from the DPRK’s central leadership were WPK Vice Chairman and Director of Cadres’ Affairs Kim P’yo’ng-hae [Kim Phyong Hae], State Planning Commission Chairman and DPRK Vice Premier Ro Tu-ch’o’l [Ro Tu Chol], Pyongyang WPK City Committee Chairman Kim Su-kil [Kim Su Gil], Minister of External Economic Relations and DPRK Vice Premier Ri Ryo’ng-nam [Ri Ryong Nam], WPK Agricultural Department Director Ri Ch’o’l-man [Ri Chol Man], WPK Light Industry Department Deputy Director Pak Myo’ng-so’n [Pak Myong Sun] and other “officials of the party, armed forces and power bodies, working people’s organizations, ministries and national institutions, service personnel of the Korean People’s Army (KPA) and working people in Pyongyang.”  Floral wreaths were delivered to KJS’ memorial marker from Kim Jong Un (Kim Cho’ng-u’n), a joint wreath from the WPK Central Committee, the State Affairs Commission, the Supreme People’s Assembly Presidium and the DPRK Cabinet, as well as wreaths from various “ministries and national institutions, units of the Korean People’s Army [KPA], revolutionary schools, party and power bodies and factories in Pyongyang.”

In KJS’ hometown, Hoeryo’ng, WPK Vice Chairman for Economic Affairs O Su-yo’ng [O Su Yong], in the area to oversee flood reconstruction and recovery efforts, led North Hamgyo’ng Provincial and Hoeryo’ng municipal officials in placing floral wreaths and bouquets in front of the statue at the Kim Jong Suk Revolutionary Site.  Floral wreaths and bouquets were also delivered to the KJS Statue at the Kim Jong Suk Naval Academy in South Hamgyo’ng Province.
