Wine Wednesday 2011 Santa Carolina Colchagua Estate Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon

By Fitnspicy @fitnspicy

On Sunday afternoon we had pork ragu in the crockpot and the whole house smelled amazing (recipe coming tomorrow) and I wanted a big hearty red to go with it. My mind immediately went to Chile and I grabbed a 2011 Santa Carolina Colchagua Estate Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon.

It retails for around $11 a bottle and is great with pasta, red meats, game and cheese. This cabernet had notes of spice and chocolate with medium tannins and a nice long finish. I wasn’t expecting this one to be as bold as it was for this price point (thanks to Wines of Chile for sending me a few bottles of Chilean cabernet sauvignon).

This would be great for a party with varying tastes or just a weeknight dinner with something a bit heavier since it would overpower more delicate flavors.
