Why We Love the Minneapolis Howe Neighborhood... from a Family Who Lives There

By Homesmsp @HomesMSP

I am currently working with a family who lives in the Minneapolis Howe neighborhood, and loves it so much they have tried for several years to find a bigger home in the same neighborhood for their growing family. They finally decided it was time to move to another neighborhood, but both their desire to stay and their difficulty finding their next home there are indicative of the neighborhood.

The Howe Neighborhood  is largely comprised of small traditional craftsman bungalows on quiet, tree-lined streets... affordable, manageable and beautiful. Located between the Mississippi River with its biking and hiking trails and Hiawatha Avenue/LRT Blue Line it has easy access to downtown Minneapolis, St. Paul and the airport. Who wouldn't want to stay?

Here is what my clients have to say about their neighborhood... it's about more than just location.

"We call the intersection of 42nd Avenue and 38th Street the nexus of our neighborhood... The Riverview Theater, Coffee Shop, Wine Bar, Mother Earth Gardens, and a Nice Ride Station next to the Fairview Clinic. What more could you need? Lake Street provides a wealth of local businesses and restaurants that cater to the residents of the neighborhood, along with other larger consumer opportunities.

Perhaps the greatest part of the neighborhood is the people. This block has some o the kindest, divers, helpful people one could meet in the Twin Cities. It is an easy 4-block walk to the river parkway, allowing for lots of opportunity to enjoy nature within the city limits. The neighborhood schools have been fantastic places of learning and community building for our entire family. Although only 10 minutes from downtown Minneapolis, it feels like a small peaceful enclave."

Its location and people make people want to stay...

  • The Mississippi River with its Grand Rounds biking and hiking trail
  • Rustic Winchell hiking trail in the woods along the river
  • Midtown Greenway bike 'highway'
  • Historic Minnehaha Falls
  • Greater Longfellow Neighborhood shopping, services and coffee shops/restaurants... even a movie theater
