Thoughts on We Need to Do Something

Characters & Performances – Melissa is the teenage daughter of the family trapped in the bathroom, she is the only character that has flashbacks to her life before the storm, with her girlfriend, she has become reliant on her phone, which in this situation has become obsolete, but it is her flashbacks, which will have a bigger impact on her character through the entrapment. Sierra McCormick is the one that gets more to work with her, as her character must deal with a lot more before getting trapped, which the rest don’t get to do much with. Robert and Diane are the parents that spend time arguing while protecting the children, which will see the darker side of their decision-making process coming to life. Vinessa Shaw and Pay Healy do play their roles well, with Healy bring the much-needed darker figure into the situation the family find themselves in.

StoryThe story here follows a family that find themselves trapped in their bathroom after a storm, leading to them needing to figure out how to survive, get the attention of someone else and hold everything together. What starts out like something that could be considered a routine survival styled story, takes a dramatic turn once we dive into the flashbacks of Melissa’s life. This story might have some strange decisions going on, which will leave you scratching your head, but once you overlook them, we are thrown into something that is massively hiding plenty of the bigger picture, making you want to see more, but knowing if you did see everything, you would be disappointed. This is a smart enough movie that will know the perfect amount to give the audience.

ThemesWe Need to Do Something is a horror that will see a family trapped in a bathroom after a storm, where they must deal with the own relationship, while not knowing what has happened outside. This is a film that will give us plenty of horror, with the mix between what is happening and what could be happening. The single location does play into the main tension in the film, despite it being a luxury sized bathroom.

Final Thoughts We Need to Do Something is a movie that will keep you wanting more, without making you feel like you haven’t got enough.
