Noble Kin is the work of Keith Polasko, a Brooklyn-based singer and multi-instrumentalist, whose work steps cautiously and beautifully from hushed folk to ambling Americana, embracing melancholy but never giving in to it. By the time we’ve seen the band name and EP title, our minds have leapt back a few centuries to a time when the Dark Ages weren’t far behind us — instead, though, his sound pushes us into more recent eras, carefully and gently hanging onto the edges of shadows. “Prisms in the Dark”, from Noble Kin’s newly released EP, Cornish Litany, toys with the idea of stifled possibility. “Rainbow fuel beneath the bark/Rakes progress and schools the sharks/Fate is a prism in the dark/So much fuel no spark.” The video is gorgeous in its black and white simplicity, doing well to convey the sentiment of the song with a brief but brilliant flash of color set to dimly-lit animation.
