But it becomes easy if we do it regularly. i already posted murunga keerai poriyal as a separate post. This Vaazhaipoo murunga keerai thuvattal is also a similar method of preparation. But I included vaazhai poo in it. It tastes great and nutritious also. With this combination of two, we can make vaazhaipoo murunga keerai kootu also.

  • While cleaning the banana flower, if you feel difficulty removing the thick center strand and plastic-like cover, gently rub it on the flower. It easily comes off.

how to make Vaazhaipoo murunga keerai poriyal:

  1. Rinse murunga keerai and let in the drain the water for 30 mins.
  2. Clean the leaves as in the picture and keep them aside.
  3. Then to clean vaazhai poo, remove the bracts one by one, and collect the florets in it.
  4. Gently rub on top of florets and remove a thick string with a small bulb-like head and a small plastic like cover.
  5. You have to do this for each floret. After removing these two, chop and place in plain water or water mixed with buttermilk until cooking.
  6. Heat a kadai or wok, add 2 to 3 tsp of oil, then mustard. After it splutters, add 1 tsp of urad dal and 1 tbsp of channa dal. saute till it slightly changes in color.
  7. Add red chilies & shallots and saute till onion turns transparent. Then add ¾ cup of water.
  8. After it starts boiling, add drumstick leaves and vaazhai poo.
  9. Cook covered for 5 minutes in low flame. Open and stir.
  10. Cook covered again if there is more water left.
  11. Finally, add shredded coconut ¼ cup and mix.
  12. Once the water is completely absorbed, turn off the stove.
  13. Now the vaazhai poo murunga keerai poriyal is ready to be served.
