Uncharted 4 graphics “really close to film”, says character artist
Uncharted 4 lead character artist Frank Tzengi believes game models are close to the fidelity seen in movie CGI.
According to Tzengi, game graphics only going to get better, and right now Nathan Drake is already good enough to be in a movie.
“Game quality is really close to film right now, look at the stuff we do in Naughty Dog,” he told CG Master Academy, as transcribed by Gamepur.
“This character can easily be a digital double in a film. Based on the quality, the detail, the blend shape, the colour, everything that we put on the character this is basically a film character to me. So to me, videos games are getting really close to film quality, and this is exactly what I wanted to do.”
Tzengi said the generational jump means Naughty Dog can now use more polygons, more high-res maps higher resolutions.
“Making more expressions, making more blend shapes and wrinkle maps,” he said.
“All of this is getting us one step closer to the film quality that we wanted for the game industry and I think in a few years we can definitely get there.”  Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is expected on PS4 sometime this year.
