This week I’ve been thinking about how different types of shoes are described by different names and I’ve been surprised at the variety of names and terms use to label women’s shoes. It’s not only information that designers or fashionistas need to know; it really IS helpful when you’re shopping online to know that you want to buy a pair of red kitten-heel Mary Janes and can search accordingly. It saves a lot of time wading through a search for “red shoes” on Ebay! Fair enough, some sellers may not even know the correct terminology for their shoes, and if they did, the might get more purchases from savvy shoppers who are googling their ideal shoes with specific search terms, so this will help them too!
Either way, I thought it would be a good idea to share this diagram showing the ‘proper’ names of these different styles so that you can take note and use them when you’re shopping or even just to show off when you’re on the FROW at Fashion Week: “ooh check out those Marc Jabob platform peep-toe D’Orsays”
