True Blood’s Luke Grimes to Take on Gay Role in ‘Freeheld’

[The] story follows a New Jersey car mechanic and her police detective girlfriend Laurel Hester who both battle to secure Hester’s pension benefits after she’s diagnosed with a terminal illness.

Grimes plays a secretly gay cop on the police force who, in solidarity with his colleague, comes out of the closet to support her fight against the local government for domestic partner rights.

Steve Carell, Julianne Moore, Ellen Page and Michael Shannon will also star in the movie. The production crew on this movie include Michael Shamberg, Stacy Sher, Ellen Page, Kelly Bush, James D. Stern, Richard Fischoff, Duncan Montgomery, Jack Selby and Cynthia Wade. It will be directed by Pete Sollett with the screenplay being written by Ron Nyswaner.

This movie will follow a stellar line up of movies for Grimes which include the movie adaptation of the phenomenally successful BDSM book, Fifty Shades of Grey. He will also be starring in American Sniper alongside Bradley Cooper this December as well as Shangri-La Suite which is slated for release in 2015. This movie tells the story of Karen and Jack (Luke Grimes) who meet in a mental facility. Jack is under the assumption that his one true destiny is to kill Elvis Presley.
