True Blood Season 5 is well underway and Bon Temps is currently a dangerous place for shifters to be. After a fallout with Sam (Sam Trammell) early in the season, we weren’t sure how much Luna we would be seeing this year. However as the storyline of shifters being shot has heated up, we have been seeing a lot more of Janina Gavankar. She spoke to Celebuzz recently about her mom being on set while she was being fitted for one of her nude scene “costumes”, her character, and who she thinks Sookie (Anna Paquin) should be with in the end.
Nudity on the set of True Blood is not exactly a new concept but aside from Anna Paquin, few people spend more time nude than the shapeshifters of Bon Temps. Gavankar tells Celebuzz that she is fine with the nudity scenes on the show because it is all handled in a very professional way. Plus she embraces the shifter mindset about nudity and that helps her prepare for the scenes. Gavankar goes on to say that by the time they appear on television none of the stars look the same as they would in real life. She points out that they have been spray tanned, have professional makeup, their hair has been done and the lighting is just right. To prepare for those days where she spends a lot of time in a state of undress, they do fittings for the nude-colored undergarment that she wears to keep as much covered as she can. On one particular day, her mother was in town and accompanied her to one of her fittings. When asked what her mother thought of it all, Janina replied:
It demystified the entire thing for her. She really got to see how it’s very much work. It’s a full work day and she got to see how professional it really was. She was there for the entire fitting watching it all happen — how we’re talking about sizes of underwear and which color matches my skin tone. It’s really very technical. There’s nothing sexy and therefore awkward because of it. There is nothing awkward about it because there is nothing sexy about it either.
When talk moves to what we can expect from Luna this season, Gavankar says that Luna’s focus is on her daughter. Her little girl happens to be a werewolf instead of a shifter like her so that raises the stakes for Luna who is ultimately trying to do the right thing for her daughter.
And finally, Gavankar is asked to weigh in with her opinion on who Sookie should end up with when all is said and done. She replied:
I love Bill (Stephen Moyer) but I think she needs to give Alcide (Joe Manganiello) a real shot. But in the very end? I would say Bill. I feel like whenever she’s crying and she’s with him, I’m always more choked up. Maybe it’s just because of their real life chemistry.
