When I attended a Senior Housing Summit a couple months ago it also included an optional visit to TowerLight in St. Louis Park. I had driven by this new senior housing development at 36th Street and Wooddale Avenue in St. Louis Park many times but didn't know much about it except I thought it seemed to be a busy corner for a senior facility.
I was surprised when I approached it from the back side... and was even more surprised when I learned that it is a cutting-edge 'age in place' facility that also includes an innovative intergenerational progam in cooperation with TowerLight Childcare where the seniors and children can interact regularly.
Not only does the facility have 75 independent senior apartments, they also offer assisted living, memory care and high service care suites for transitional care. Instead of switching rooms or floors as residents need more care, services will be brought to them so they don't have to move... they will just age in place in their own apartments with what they call a 'Continuum of Independence'.
Available support systems for use as needed include housekeeping, personal care, medication management, activity programs, 3 meals served daily and 24-hour staff.
The building includes shops and businesses street side on the main level, but it is the kids that really sets this facility apart... a relatively new concept where a day care center is incorporated into a senior campus. In the words of a resident at another Ebenezer senior living community that also includes a child care center, "The kids add sunshine, that's the best way to describe it."
