Via MyFoxChicago: A woman was killed and at least 18 other people have been wounded in shootings across Chicago since Friday.

The homicide happened about 6 p.m. Friday in the Belmont Gardens neighborhood on the Northwest Side. A 24-year-old woman was sitting in a car parked in the 2700 block of North Kilbourn when another car pulled up and someone got out and shot her in the chest, according to Chicago Police. She was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office withheld her name Saturday evening pending notification of her family.

Armed robberies are taking place at a fast speed in one Chicago neighborhood. Police are warning residents about a series of armed robberies reported within six hours on Friday in the West Side Austin neighborhood and North Side Wicker Park neighborhood. The robberies occurred between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 6:01 am.

And a police officer was shot in the head in Park Forest (a suburb of Chicago) as the police investigated a break-in call. Sources said the officer, Tim Jones, a rookie who’s only been with Park Forest police for less than a year, underwent surgery Saturday morning after being shot in the head.

Jones comes from a police family, his father is Chief William Jones of the Country Club Hills police department.

Officers responded to a call just before 6AM in the 300 block of Neola. Neighbors reported hearing glass breaking at a nearby vacant home. The officers found a stolen vehicle parked in the driveway and a man inside the home. The officers surrounded the home and asked the man to leave.

The man tried escaping through a window when officers went to detain him he produced a handgun and began firing upon officers. He said the officers returned fired, killing the suspect, 21-year-old Thurman Reynolds.

Jones was taken to St. James hospital in Olympia Fields, but was then airlifted to Advocate Christ Medical center in Oak Lawn. Sources say he was out of surgery by 3:15 Saturday afternoon and in recovery.
