Keep in mind that this month the good mayor Rahm Emanuel started a “Put the Guns Down” initiative. A “Put the Guns Down” event was held this weekend, which apparently had zero impact on Chiraq.

The Memorial Day weekend technically ends on Monday. Expect these numbers to go up since I originally scheduled this on Sunday morning (when 3 were fatally shot and 12 others were shot).

Via NBC Chicago: A 15-year-old girl was one of three people killed along with another 12 who were wounded in less than eight hours of shootings to start the Memorial Day holiday weekend, police said.

The most recent homicide occurred in the Portage Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side. A 23-year-old man got into an fight with two other males inside a business about 5:15 a.m. in the 6300 block of West Montrose, police said. The man was shot in the head and dead at the scene, police said.

A 15-year-old girl and 28-year-old man were in a vehicle in the 2400 block of North Lake Shore Drive just before 1:30 a.m. when a black Nissan pulled alongside them and someone inside opened fire, police said.

They took themselves to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital, but the girl was later transferred to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, police said. The man was shot in the arm and suffered a graze wound to the head, police said. His condition had stabilized. The Cook County medical examiner’s office didn’t confirm the two deaths Saturday morning.
