At some level of the US government, they must know that they are cooking up lies and false flags and whatnot, but at the level of the US state, everyone is a sociopath anyway, so they just do whatever devious machinations need to be done.
The CIA is actually incredibly one of the most organs of the US government. When the CIA, which lies as a matter of course as part of a philosophy known as disinformation, is the most honest agency in your government, I would say, “Houston we have a problem.”
Nevertheless whenever the CIA contradicts what the government says and gives a completely different summary of events which more or less calls the government version a lie, not one single major US news or opinion outlet carries it, with the exception of the New Yorker, which runs Seymour Hirsch’s reports.
