The Ultimate Guide to Choosing Jewellery for Your Girlfriend or Wife

Everyone likes receiving a gift. It doesn't matter if you're a man or woman, young or old, or even if you're cynical and grumpy. Okay, so some of us don't enjoy getting things we don't want, but even then we can recognize the kind the gesture. Besides, buying presents is hard. It's really difficult to pick something out for someone else. And even if you have an idea of what to get, choosing the perfect item can still feel impossible.

One of the most difficult things is when a man has to buy jewellery for his wife or girlfriend. If that's you, you might be struggling. You might have noticed what she likes, but you don't know much about jewellery. If you need a crash course in choosing something, use some of the tips below.

Sometimes, there's one very easy way to pick out a piece of jewellery for your wife or girlfriend. All you have to do is listen to hear if she drops any hints. If she does, they're likely to be fairly obvious. Watch out when a special occasion is approaching, whether it's a birthday, Christmas, or something else. Look out for non-verbal cues too. What does she stop to look at in shop windows? What is she lusting after in a magazine or online (note: don't go through her internet history)?

Don't stare at her creepily, no freaky behavious or you will make her suspici, just take notice of what she's wearing. If you're usually good at this, it shouldn't be too hard. You should just pay attention to any and make a mental (or physical) note of it. You'll be able to see what sort of thing she likes to wear, even if you can't quite put it into words. It's easy to tell if she prefers delicate pieces or something flashy, or if she wants natural and bohemian over fine jewellery.

Save Rings for Special Occasions

One thing to keep in mind is to avoid rings unless it's for a very special occasion. You should save them for engagements, weddings and significant anniversaries. If you're married or in a long-term relationship, you might look at eternity rings. But it's best to stay away from rings if you aren't looking to say something big . Yes, she might wear rings on a daily basis, but they're different if they cost $10 and don't come from you.

If you're still feeling completely clueless, you can ask someone who knows her well. Your options are family members or friends. You might know one or the other better or be able to communicate with them more easily, especially without your wife or girlfriend knowing. Ask her best friend, sister or even her mum to help you pick out something perfect. Although, make sure they have a good sense of her style and aren't as clueless as you are.

When you first start looking for jewellery for your girlfriend or wife, you might feel at a loss. But as you think about it, you'll realise you know her tastes better than you think.
