I got it from my Mama, I got it from my Mama. No, really I did. I got my mum’s love of luxurious labels, her sun worshipping qualities and unfortunately her less than perky posterior. Now, it takes a lot to make me envious, as long as you don’t have the latest Balenciaga, we can still be friends but recently, I’ve begun to feel jealous of those that have a naturally round bum. Mine has always been a bit flat but I’ve always been rather proud that I could fit into my size 10 jeans without a struggle. However, the nation has developed a love for big bums and I’m more than fashionably late to the party. So, I’m flying the flag for flat bums no more. Join me in my pursuit of the perfect posterior.
I don’t know whether it was Kim Kardashian’s Selfie or the fact that my boyfriend does Tough Mudder for fun that pushed me over the edge but a couple of weeks ago I decided to take a stand against my flat bum (flum). So, how exactly do you go about getting a better bum? In the words of Britney, you better work Bitch.
Pop Over to Pinterest
I’ve been told by personal trainers in the past that I don’t engage my glutes when exercising and as a result I overcompensate with my back and thighs. If you are guilty of this too, you will love this little workout I found on Pinterest. If you don’t have time to go to the gym, doing this in the morning before work is the first step to a perky posterior.
Stop Pretending
I’ve stopped pretending to work out at my posh gym and joined a gym where you can’t get your nails done. Or sip coffee, or wax your brows or lounge in the sauna. With all of these distractions gone and an extra £70 a month to play with, I’ve joined a cheaper gym, invested in a pair of Zaggora Atomica hotpants and started to work out twice a week with a personal trainer. *Cue Rocky soundtrack* I’ve also singed up to Strictly Learn Dancing (a charity dance off) but that’s a whole other story.
SQUATS
You can’t get a bum like Kim’s without doing squats. So, I’m doing squats. In my house, in other people’s houses, in the shower, at work and in the gym. I’m doing jumping squats (don’t forget your sports bra). With weights. Bored of squats? I’ve started skipping and I’ve also watched a fairly hefty list of YouTube videos that focus on brilliant bum workout. Carly Rowena’s are quite spectacular.
Hydrate
Just because you aren’t running on the treadmill doesn’t mean you don’t need to drink. Hydration is just as important (have you seen the limited edition Evian bottle designed by Ellie Saab?) and I’ve found some great products that make topping up your fluid levels fun. Water is all I need to get through a workout, a cute bottle also helps. Green tea is my hot drink of choice on an evening which gives me the perfect excuse to stock up on the new Riot of Colour range at Harvey Nichols. There are also some new and exciting beauty drinks from Ocoo that i can’t wait to check out.
Calculate
I love the satisfaction that comes with tracking a workout but if you aren’t on the treadmill, tracking your progress becomes harder. That’s why I’m planning on investing in a Fit Bit to calculate how many calories I’m burning in a session.
