Yesterday I was doing some household chores and I had to hang some of my paintings. in the thick of it, my great aunt - 70 years old- phoned me. She is a treasure trove of all the Italian superstitions. When he asks me what I'm doing I reply: "I'm going to attack two paintings on the wall."
The first question was: "Can a girl use the hammer and nails?" My answer was: "Dear aunt, I am going to use the drill, it is a bit more comfortable."
Second question she posed me: "There are birds on your paintings?". No, they represent no birds but why this question- I asked her? I discovered a new superstition I want to share with you! You don’t have to hang the paintings of birds, because they bring you bad luck. Why? Investigating I discovered that all the objects that represent the birds bring the bad luck. The reason? She didn’t know why and in this case she always tells me in an elusive way that her mother told her this superstition.
As first I usually paint some abstract subjects, anyway I was reflecting on the fact: what about if I were a bird watching or a photographer of the nature that hangs on the walls millions of photos of her work? I would therefore be the most unlucky person in the world! Now as a perfect equation if you enjoy the bird watching and you like to hang the pictures of the birds you have admired you must have an important decision among the following choices:
1) You do not hang any pictures of bird and you keep the photos in some other place.
2) You monthly call a witch for the bad luck
3) You do not care and you hang your pictures! ( as I do)
L’altro giorno stavo facendo dei lavoretti in casa e fra i tanti dovevo appendere dei miei quadri. Sul più bello mi chiama la mia prozia di 70 anni, scrigno di tutte le superstizioni italiane. Quando mi chiede che cosa io stia facendo le rispondo : “ Sto per attaccare due quadri alla parete”.Domanda numero uno che mi ha posto: “ Una ragazza che usa martello e chiodi?” a la mia risposta ovviamente è stata: “Zia, sto per usare il trapano, è un po’ più comodo.” Seconda domanda che mi ha posto:”Non rappresentano uccelli i quadri vero?”. No non rappresentavano uccelli ma perché mai mi stava facendo una domanda di quel genere? Le ho domandato come mai mi chiedesse ciò ed ho scoperto una superstizione nuova che voglio condividere con voi! Non si appendono quadri rappresentanti volatili perché portano sfortuna. Perché mai? Approfondendo ho scoperto che tutti gli oggetti che rappresentino uccelli portano sfortuna. Il perché? Non lo sapeva bene neanche lei e quando non lo sa mi risponde vaga che sua mamma glielo diceva sempre.Partiamo dal fatto che stavo appendendo miei quadri e di solito raffiguro soggetti astratti, in ogni caso riflettevo sul fatto: e se fossi una osservatrice di uccelli o una fotografa di natura che appende alle pareti le milioni di foto del suo lavoro? Sarei quindi la persona più sfortunata del mondo. A questo punto come una perfetta equazione se pratichi birdwatching e hai il piacere di appendere le foto degli uccelli che hai potuto ammirare devi prendere una decisione importante: o non appendi nessuna foto e tieni per te i tuoi tesori , oppure chiami mensilmente una fattucchiera che ti levi la sfortuna oppure, come farei, io te ne sbatti e continui ad appendere quadri!
