Straight from the UK, the bill for The Joy Formidable’s concert at Irving Plaza included fellow English rock group Everything Everything. Their fan base certainly overlaps with the headliner, as the entire front row sang along to each and every song — all while wearing shirts from The Joy Formidable. Their energy and performance showed that they’re ready to take on a larger stage next time they come around to the states.
Now touring around their latest LP, Hitch, The Joy Formidable came back as energetic as before. Lead singer Rhiannon even noted, “It felt like it’s been forever since the last time we came here in October.” But there’s no doubt that New York was ready for them — for the entire night, it was clear that the band and the crowd were all having a blast. From aggressively strumming the guitar to going into the crowd for a quick acoustic performance, it was an engaging set that made the cold April night bearable.
