The Irish House, Pali Hill, Mumbai; New Lovely Menu

By Indian Food Freak @IFoodFreak

20151205_135314The Irish house stands proudly in a corner of Pali hill in Bandra west, surrounded a other high and mighty restaurants of the city. The restaurant has long been synonymous with great ales and finger foods.

Recently we were invited to check out their new menu and the few hours ordeal was nothing less than spectacular. Here is our lowdown on the experience.

Irish Butter Rum
So, as all good Irish customs, we started off our tasting with some stiff drinks. The first drink to start off was an Irish House Butter Rum which when it appeared, put us a bit off due to the floating butter in the drink; but as we took the first sip, we were quick to realize that the butter doesn’t bother in the mouth and in fact the bitter limey taste of the cocktail was apt enough to give us good heady start to the afternoon.

On the food front, we started off with a platter of

Two Faced Chicken Skewers
which were chicken sausages with barbecue sauce and chicken pieces with black pepper and mustard sauce. This platter was surprisingly delicious, the sausage was thankfully not the frozen kind and was very juicy and soft. I loved he black sesame topping on the same. We had also ordered a dish called The Angry Bird which was a spicy chicken platter served on a bed of French fries with a fried egg on top. The fiery dish was delectably spicy burning the fire of desire right through to the pit of my stomach making me crave for more and more with each bite and also look out for some more drinks.

Irish Terminator
Parched and spiced up, we ilost no time in ordering our next drink which was called the Irish Terminator and is termed as a community drink. This massive goblet was HUGE and had several different kinds of spirits. At Rs.2225, this is a very potent and complete drink for a bunch of friends and is sure to give you the necessary high as you work your way through it.

Cheese & chilli cigars
The next dish that was brought to us were the Cheese & chilli cigars which I found to be a bit undercooked; however the cheesy filling was oozing with deliciousness and the lovely citrusy honey mustard sauce had a smacking flavor which worked well with the cigars.

We had gone there over a Saturday afternoon and I must say the place was packed with both young and old alike. The music rocked rolling out rock and roll numbers from the 70s and the whole atmosphere was buzzing with laughter and conversation.

Whistle Blower
Next we tried some drinks which are worth mentioning, the first one was a cocktail made with Teachers and Laphroig called the Whistle Blower (Rs.725) , this was a lovely smokey and citrusy drink that you would love to sip on after a long day at work. The other one funnily names Jameson’s Sperm was a bit too sweet and milky to my taste but was a fun drink nevertheless. On comparison, the next drink, Elevation was a far better cocktail with a perfect bitter and sweet and sour balance which was quite good.

What’s a nice Irish lunch without a lovely Irish House burger! The sloppy juicy burger can be a bit clumsy to eat, but the caramelized onions and the oozing juices from the burger patty made it every bit of a hearty burger that burger lovers would just adore. The Cheeky Grilled Sandwich on the other hand, was too dry and fell flat in comparison to the Irish burger.

Flaming Sambuca
We rounded off our meal with two lovely shorts called the Flaming Sambuca and the Dublin Haze, both of which gave us a lovely after feel to a meal well devoured.

The new menu at Irish house has the winning recipe of food and drinks that work well with each other. The decibel levels are adorably good allowing a wholesome conversation and yet let us feel the music as well. Here is to the Green goblin and the Irish House for many such lovely Sunday afternoons in the future. I am sure to go back for the Burger alone soon!!
