The earliest known Mayan calendar has been found in an ancient house in Xultún in Guatemala and it offers no hint that the world's end is imminent. Boston University archaeologist William Saturno and Ph.D. student Franco Rossi were inspecting a looters' tunnel, where an undergraduate student had noticed the faintest traces of paint on a thin stucco wall.
The calculations on the discovered calendar include dates some 7,000 years in the future, adding to evidence against the idea that the Maya thought the world would end in 2012.
