5,900 acres of ancient woodland managed by the City of London, the Epping Forest is London's largest green space – ideal for camping and cycling.
The camping trip was terrific fun - and this comes from an irredeemable towny who breaks out in a rash if kept away from London for too long. We had nine kids running wild, several grown-ups run ragged, no rain (!), football, tree swings and a sing-along by the camp fire. As you can see from the pic, my singing cleared the whole field…
The cycling was fun, too…
The guys at Go Further Cycling were helpful and friendly - go and see them! Their bike hire service couldn't be any simpler and it's a great way to see the forest. Here's their website: www.gofurthercycling.co.uk/. The great outdoors is just at the end of the Central Line!
Back in town, it was Fathers' Day in June and my Rock'n'Roll London Fathers' Day Special offered FREE walks for dads! It was a greatly enjoyable afternoon and I was joined by my own daughter who made a movie of the whole affair…
Afterwards I hit the hard stuff at Poppies in Old Compton Street… More filming in June when Jon Klein shot my Rock'n'Roll London Pub Walk with LIVE Music. Jon is an excellent fella, and an exceptionally talented filmmaker. Over the past few years he has made a great many promos for London Walks (most recently the Jack the Ripper film). As a musician he also composed the soundtrack for the Rock'n'Roll film - I love his little parodic flourishes. Here's the finished article…
… I spent a LOT of time with The Floyd this year researching, writing and curating the walk. For a music nerd such as I, it was a LOT of fun.
Thanks to my colleague and chum Andrew Lukas for tagging along on the walk and for being so supportive and encouraging and for taking this photo…
June also saw BBC Music Day – 45 new music-themed plaques were placed all over the UK. Here's what a plaque looks like the night BEFORE the unveiling…
Thanks also to Ms Kats from Illinois, a lovely London Walker who gifted me two ingeniously made PopTop Jewellery bracelets for my wife and daughter…
June also saw the release of the new Wonder Woman movie, a thrilling action adventure with LOADS of London spotting to be done…
Catch up with my Wonder Woman London Locations Blog HERE.
Last word in June goes to Pink Floyd and my excellent Fathers' Day present…
