Texas Department of Safety Thinks Tampons Are Dangerous, but Not Guns

Texas Capitol Security confiscating tamponsNo, you didn’t misread the title of this post.  Late last week, members of the Texas Legislature had their tampons and maxi-pads confiscated by security officials.  Meanwhile, members with a concealed-carry license could carry their guns into the state capitol.   Officials believed that tampons could be used as projectile weapons thrown at state senators.

I am not even sure I need to explain the absurdity of this “security” measure.  What I think should happen is that those whose tampons were confiscated should be given their property back and allowed to fling them at the incompetency of these security officials.

If tampons can be used as “projectile weapons” what do these people make of guns?  Which are weapons.  No assembly required.

If you thought that was the only dumb idea presented last week then you are mistaken.  Televangelist Pat Robertson, a man who shouldn’t be on TV, expressed his desire for Facebook to add a “vomit-button” to tag pictures of same-sex couples on their site.  Again, I am not making this stuff up.

Pat Robertson
The Daily Beast writes:

“On his television show, The 700 Club, on Monday, Robertson was asked by a viewer about the appropriate response to pictures on Facebook of gay or lesbian couples kissing. He responded, “You’ve got a couple of same-sex guys kissing, do you like that? Well that makes me want to throw up. To me, I would punch ‘vomit,’ not ‘like.’ They don’t give you that option on Facebook.”

The only thing making me want to vomit is Robertson’s ignorance.  It is such comments that make opponents to same-sex marriage seem ignorant and ludicrous.  Regardless of your personal thoughts on gay marriage, how exactly are photos of same-sex couples despicable?  How do the lives of gay couples affect your life?  Are gay couples not supposed to be free to love whom they want?

I have a response to his viewer.  If you have a problem with those pictures maybe you should consider de-friending them.  Because the truth of the matter is that you aren’t really worthy of their friendship.  But what do I know?   I’m not on TV.  Obviously good old Pat knows what he is talking about.  If you hear/see it on TV then you know it’s true.

What do you think?
