Shirley temple curls spilling around her face, Alaina Moore, lead singer and front woman of Tennis, is the real-life embodiment of whiskey in a teacup — her pint size appearance is deceiving given the soul and power that she delivers through her vocals. At Saturday night’s sold out show, the Denver based band took the stage to play songs that had the very eclectic crowd chiming in with every chorus, leading Alaina to jokingly note that she felt grateful since she sometimes forgets her own lyrics. Tennis delivered equal parts romantic melodies and edgier bluesy staccatos, leaving the crowd swaying like palm trees. After playing older favorites from Cape Dory, the band transitioned into their latest feat from last year, Ritual in Repeat, givings fans more mature, raw sound. Altogether, the whole performance felt like a hometown show, as warmth emanated between crowd and band. So if you’re feeling cozy and nostalgic, go play some Tennis!
